Running at eight episodes less, the Japanese version of Kai omits even more of Gohan's antics as Saiyaman while the final match in the Junior Division of the World Martial Arts Tournament between Trunks and Goten is re-edited into later episodes. Goku and Vegeta's battle against mental projections of Gotenks, Gohan and Piccolo are removed entirely while Goku and Vegeta's climactic bout against Kid Buu on the Supreme Kai's planet has been trimmed considerably. Many of the subsequent fights are similarly shortened to accommodate the shortened episode order, including Goku's confrontation with Majin Vegeta, Gohan's battles against Super Buu and the fused warrior Vegito's fight with Buu. Instead, The Final Chapters begin with the seven-year time jump as Gohan attends high school though his exploits under his superhero alter ego of the Great Saiyaman are significantly truncated. The changes to the final storylines in Z are evident immediately, with the Other World Tournament chronicling Goku's adventures in the afterlife excised completely. With the original Dragon Ball Z animation frames having faced the test of time, Toei Animation decided to remaster the old animation in high definition and adjust the aspect ratios for a 20th anniversary re-release.
